A few Fort Wayne Komets notes

Dennis Kravchenko

As they always do, the Fort Wayne Komets will march in the Three Rivers Festival Parade on Saturday morning. There will be some Legends and Jamie Schaafsma will walk along with Icy. Shawn Szydlowski told me he was going to come down to walk as well. There might be a few surprise players.

Komets General Manager David Franke said today the team is continuing to talk with Dennis Kravchenko and Marc-Olivier Roy about contracts for next season. Marco would prefer to get an American Hockey League deal, but he’s like Fort Wayne as a second option.

“We’re talking to a lot of guys right now,” Franke said. “It’s time for patience.”

Pretty much every other ECHL team has been signing rookies or returning players right now. The better players traditionally sign in August after exhausting their AHL chances.

Franke said the Komets are still continuing to talk with potential AHL affiliates. That usually takes a lot of patience, too, because you can’t do anything but wait for them to make up their minds at this point. The Komets will have a plan if they have to go independent again.
