Area tennis players receive all-state honors
Several Fort Wayne boys high school tennis players received mention recently when the all-state teams were announced.
Leo junior Eli Herran, Carroll Senor Ethan Radke and Homestead junior David Heiney were named to the all-state singles first team with Leo junior Isaac Steiner making the second team. The Homestead doubles teams of seniors Will Wilne and Thomas Weir were named first-team.
Receiving honorable mention in singles were Blackhawk Christian senior Drew Hall, Canterbury senior Nishanth Reddy, Carroll sophomore Luke Stoffel, Homestead sophomore Daniel Gilbert and Huntington North senior Auden Eckert. Receiving honorable mention in doubles were Canterbury seniors Anrie Lal and Graham Gnagy, Leo seniors Evan Roth and Josh Jakacki and Homestead senior Nicholas Graber and freshman Tim Steiner.
The first-team academic all-state squad includes Jonathan Woehnker of Bishop Luers, Evan Roth of Leo, Grant Springer of Snider and Will Milne of Homestead. Receiving honorable mention were Bellmont’s Oliver Gehres, Josiah Mathieu, Michael Wetter and Robert Ysidron, Evan Baumgartner of Bluffton, Marshall Beard and John Gurtner of DeKalb, Adam Dills of East Noble, Cole Scheible of Bishop Luers, Ethan Radke of Carroll, Samuel Acra and Matthew Marsh of Northrop, Nicolas Graber and Thomas Weir of Homestead, Auden Eckert and Matt Karst of Huntington North and Jacob Collins of Norwell.
Bellmont, Canterbury, Homestead, Huntington North and Norwell also received team academic awards.
Carroll’s Radke and the Homestead doubles team of Milne and Weir have also been selected to compete in the Senior All-Star Event at DePauw University. Carroll’s Kyle Stoffel is one of the coaches for the Northeast Indiana team. The event will be played Nov. 4.
